..the weather was the winner!!

Windsor hits a WET golf course, but persevere

Windsors new Golf Society “Windsor Mbtb” standing for more bogeys than birdies, (all new name suggestions considered) finally took to the fairways at Islandmagee on Sunday morning.

Following the Rugby World Cup breakfast at our Clubhouse, we made our way to Brown’s Bay for the golf. Seventeen hardy souls (including five ladies) managed 9 holes, before having to finally admit conditions were too severe to play the second 9 holes. The shelter and warmth of the Golf clubhouse was most welcome, and a few hot toddies and pints were consumed to loosen the stiffened muscles as we all thawed out. A special thanks must go to Robin Ashe. Despite heading off to Dublin in early afternoon, Robin still managed to come and give his support to the golf outing. Sincere thanks Robin!

The standard of golf was remarkably good despite torrential rain, and an ever freshening breeze. First place was taken by David Frazer with a fine 19 points. Pat McFerran and Trevor Hewett were in hot persuit, so many congrats to David. A really big thanks to all who braved the ferocious weather conditions to make this event a success despite the weather gods best efforts to stop us.

Our thanks are also extended to the catering and bar staff who made us very welcome, and served us up a fine and very welcome meal. Soon it was off home and back to the drawing board for most of us, as we attempted to dry out our gear, and figure out where it all went wrong. Applications for handicap committee should be made in writing to……….

So as the cartoon says, “that’s all for now folks” till the spring anyhow!!
