Minutes May 2014

Minutes May 2014Following some great suggestions from yourselves, we’ll be publishing topical points from the minutes of the Council meetings; first up – Minutes May 2014. These meetings take place every month (usually the 2nd Thursday) and issues such as court hire, the Dome, Gym tennis courts, functions and events, as well as some of the more mundane things that we do. Yes, really.

So we’ll keep you up to date with a link on The Racquet, with some headline stuff which will always refer back to a page on the website. I have to be honest here – there was some lonnng debate on the editorial style – Sun or the Belfast Telegraph. We’re going to play it safe for the meantime ( 😆 ) but if you have any suggestions please let us know racqueteditor@windsortennis.co.uk

For starters, this years Council has been joined by three noobies – so a warm welcome to Ronan Kelly, Margaret McGahan and Louis McCullough.

Ronan is already helping out on the digital marketing group and has put himself and his gang  forward to paint the upstairs function room at Windsor on the weekend of 14th/15th June. This will tie in well with the new carpet that has been ordered, and we’ll be nicely setup for The Big Screen for Wimbledon weekend!

Louis (who I know as making a damn fine film – http://www.windsortennis.co.uk/louis-prize-winner-at-rhode-island) has brought his business experience with him and has joined up with the GPC to assist with the admin of the club.

Margaret has volunteered to help with the social side of Windsor and has some excellent events coming up over the next 6 months or so. Margaret requests a shameless plug for the BBQ on the 21st June here –  http://www.windsortennis.co.uk/super-saturday-2014!

Other items from the minutes:

  • some remedial work on the squash courts will be carried out shortly
  • we have recruited a new groundsman – Ray Dowds – who has already been into the club to have a guided tour from John McKelvey, before taking a short pre-planned holiday.
  • Windsor Tennis Club were asked again to hold the ITF tournament which you’ll recall ran very successfully last year, and gave Windsor some very welcome publicity and placed us as the best tennis club in Belfast! In conjunction with Belfast City Council and Ulster Tennis the ITF tournament will run 26 July to 1 August 2014. Further details to follow – Sponsors on board include the Hastings group and several others.
  • French Open offer – this was very successful and resulted in FOUR new members joining the club for the duration of the French Open. The use of our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+) was key in promoting this excellent offer at a low cost.  We will be running a similar magnifique offer during Queens and Wimbledon, so don’t forget to tell yer mates!!
