Our club tournament is nearing completion after a week of mixed weather, with windy conditions early in the week followed by better weather allowing our players to display all their skills.

In the Mens Singles, Friday night sees both semis of the A section with defending champ John McAllister taking on Ryan Porter – it’s a busy week for Ryan as he has come through from the qualifying and is still in the B section and also the Mixed final with Lucie Frazer. Also in two singles events is Joseph Doyle who plays Roger in the A section and then Ryan in the B semi-final.

In the ladies events Feena Tobin has had a good tournament and takes on Lucie Frazer in singles having already made the doubles final.

The Mens Doubles sees father and son Gilmore up against coach Simon and Patrick Keane – Jim and Rob fresh from two wins in champions tie-breaks, last night against Don and Raymond, and before that against Pat and Martin, saving two match points in the process (sorry Martin!). Jim has chosen his partner wisely this time, as he can stand at the net and let Rob do all the running – a change from his usual partners!!!

The Mixed semis were both tight affairs as Ryan and Lucie edged past Gordon and Valerie, and in a late-night finish the Irvines beat Pat and Emmy just before midnight.

Pat’s hopes of a title now lie solely with the singles plate, but he’s got a tough match with David Frazer tonight. Don McCreedy is lurking in the other half and sources say he’s taking this seriously with extra preparation for tonight’s match.

Schedule for Friday’s matches is here – finals tomorrow will kick off around lunchtime. Come along for some enjoyable tennis!
