Arthurs’ 100th Birthday party

Arthurs' 100th Birthday party

Members of Windsor Tennis Club Belfast gathered at the clubhouse recently to celebrate the 100 birthday of Ireland’s oldest tennis player, Arthur Norris.

Belfast man Arthur has been a part of Windsor for over 70 years, both as a playing member and Council member. Although his birthday isn’t actually for another few days, Arthur was delighted to come down to the Belfast Club and join in the celebrations. Arthur very generously has established the Arthur Norris award, which will be presented on an annual basis to the club volunteer who has contributed most during the year to the tennis club.

To add to a bit of spice to the occasion, BBC Radio Ulster were presenting their Saturday afternoon program (on iPlayer here) from Windsor Tennis Club; Ronan Kelly reports that Arthur, Karol and Przemek were all interviewed, and all three were excellent!

Windsor also got some priceless coverage by Ronan hopping on to Twitter to talk about the event – see the Windsor Twitter here (@Windsor_Twitter) – and some of the stats are below. Great coverage as the man said.

Pictures of Arthur with cake, candles can be seen on our Flickr page – thanks to everyone who sent in their photos and if you have any more, well we’re more than happy to get them!
