WillieAndCarole - Carole runner up for Windsor

Ladies Doubles - Runners up

Lesson no. 1 in tournaments is never to rely on others – even the Referee – to advise you as to when you are due to play next day. Check the order of play yourself.
Caught on the hop shoppping with Carole in Cala Ratjada I got a text message to say I was about to be scratched for not being on time. A race to the tennis club and a plea of mitigation just kept me in to play a single semi final. Not the best preparation!
My opponent was a cagey trick artist called Salvadore from Barcelona with every shot in the book! At 5/2 down 1st set I held serve for 5/3 only for the Spaniard to claim he had won the 1st set 6/1!
A war of words with no one understanding anything ensued, only settled with the Referee´s intervention but chopping one game of my score in compromise!
In the confusion I lost the set, dug deep to take the second on the tie break, had chances in the 3rd but lost 6/4 to the eventual tournament winner.
Carole in her final today battled hard in the 1st set narrowly failing to take it, and then ran out of steam in the 2nd. But really a great effort against a strong German.
For us it was a successful tournament – we won the mixed doubles, I won the mens doubles with a German guy called Hans – what else? – and Carole has to play ladies doubles final tomorrow.
So tonight is presentation night and we meet at 9pm. The tomorrow after Carole´s final we check out and head South west to Peguera for a tournamnet beginning Wednesday.
Cala Ratjada is a great little town set right on the harbour with nice shops and restaurants by the pier. Very lively with music everywhere.
A smattering of German would be helpful to avoid misunderstandings!
Listening to the weather reports I hear it is raining in Turkey and most of Northern Europe so having warm sunshine here makes us feel very lucky.
Peguera will be a much tougher event with very good players. But again a real challenge.
We have enjoyed it here and would have liked a little more time to explore the north coast which is said to be delightful. Maybe tomorrow we can fit it in as it is only an hours drive to Peguera.

Hasta luego!
