Windsor Lawn Tennis - what can we say, you've arrrived at the best part!
The majority of Windsor members are adult players, but a surprising statistic is that over three quarters of the playing population who get onto court are actually Juniors! And why is this? Well its pretty much down to the joint efforts of Rosamund Thompson, Tennis Director Ryan Gamble and Tennis Pro Prsemec Stec (or Schemek to his friends), who between them this year will have delivered over 800 hours of coaching and development to the various groups of juniors. Windsor runs the largest Junior tennis development programme in the whole of Ireland. The Development Programme Squads are run at Windsor to cater for all age groups and abilities. Our aim is learning improving whilst having fun. All squads and coaching is run according to the Tennis Ireland Development programme and are taken by Ryan and his coaching staff. Tennis Director Ryan Gamble & Juniors from the Easter Camp Windsor Wombles In line with the Tennis Ireland programme we offer specialised coaching for those children under 9 (up to approximately P3) to ensure they learn the basics of the game in a way which will give them the best foundation for their progression to full court tennis. At that transitions stage, they are then better equipped and more confident in moving to the next learning phase, when they are physically able to adjust to larger racquets and full size tennis balls. This is an extremely important part of developing children in tennis and we are wholly committed to this programme. Currently we offer two age levels, Mini squads - Under 7 & Midi squads - Under 9. - Recreational squads
These are run for children from 10yrs to 18yrs - these last for one hour and children are taught technique and tactics of the game as well as fitness and fun. - Elite Squads
These are available for those showing the most promise and development in the programme. These are run over two 1 ½ hour sessions a week. The Club Coach will discuss the programme with the parents of those involved. - Competitive Play
Windsor also has Junior league teams who play in the Band D league at all age groups and for recreational players friendly matches are organised against other clubs.
Windsor Junior Tournament – This is held every year for Club members and most of the events are run on a round robin basis to insure lots of matches for all entrants. The dates for this will be posted in our calendar, which will be available in April Ulster Hardcourt Junior - this prestigious Ulster ranked tournament is held in Windsor every August and is now one of the largest events in the Ulster Junior calendar. Entry forms will be available from July to download from this web site and from the separate tournament web site. Ryan will be setting up other social tennis and competitive tennis events in the coming months for the Juniors so keep checking the Windsor web site for information. Junior Summer Camps These are weeklong daily summer camps run within the Tennis Ireland guidelines and staffed by qualified coaches. They will not only improve your child's tennis but also keep them fit and active as they include fitness regimes on a daily basis. Thecamps are also very popular with parents who have eight weeks of summer holidays to think about! To be kept informed of these and other programmes, get to the Registration page! |
