Rosario v Windsor Feb 2010

PDF Print E-mail
The B's were up against a strong Rosario team who were 1 point ahead of us in the league. There was also added pressure on Carl who was returning to his old club for the first time since leaving.

Spender vs McIlroy

Michael is a good competitor and is very fit, especially as he has recently completed the New York marathon. So our man new he was up against it. Richard played well to take the first game. However, I new there was going to be trouble at mill when our man, who had expended alot of energy at this early stage, remarked ' I can tell you one thing for sure....I'm going to tire before him!!' And true to his word he did. Michael got into his stride and started to move really well and hit the ball low and hard. Richard fought hard but Michael had too much fitness and won the next 3 games comfortably. Glad to hear Richard is taking his squash seriously. In anticipation of the sub zero conditions of Nortel next Tuesday night, Richard has decided to play squash in Montreal this weekend!! Commitment eh! 1-3

Glover vs McLaughlin

I have played Paddy on a few occasions and am fully aware of his awkwardness, and his good drop off the serve. This coupled with the fact I have played very little over the past few weeks did not bode well for entertaining squash. I can confirm this was probably one of the worst games of squash I have ever played. If ever there was a time to win ugly, this was it. Paddy went 8-3 up in the first. But with a lot half court drives, drops that were half way up the wall, I managed to win it. The second game was worse. I felt like a coiled spring having no control over myself never mind the ball, 1-1. It was now time to get a hold of myself and try to relax. I relaxed enough to win the next 2 games comfortably but it was not pretty. A wins a win I always say. But I need games!! 3-1

Duffy vs McIlroy

Carl was the subject of a bit of abuse from his former team mates but this did not deter him from the job in hand. Carl is fresh from last weekends Ulster junior tournament where unfortunately he lost out in the final to our friend Michael Stewart. However he was up for this match against the younger brother of Michael McIlroy. Justin hits the ball well and moves quite well, but our man gave him the runaround and eased to a very comfortable 3-0 win. Carl moved Justin so well that he thought he was going to collapse in the changing rooms.  3-0

Wilson vs Jordan

Jonathan was up against Dave, who was taught a squash lesson by our very own Mr Spender in the first half. Dave is a good steady player who has obviously used his tanking in the 1st half to good effect as he was looking fit and was equally sharp on the court. Jonathan chose to cross court alot in the first game and Dave found these easy pickings. However in the second, after some 'good advice' from the man who gave Dave the beating, Jonathan straightened things up and this worked very well 1-1. Despite some good play by Jonathan and another 2 tight games, Dave's fitness came through and he won the match. 1-3

So a winning draw 8-7. Back to the bar for lots of pizza, lots of garlic bread, and a couple of chips. We also discussed how Carl's squash career will change significantly next year, when he is introduced to the evils of women and drink as he will be moving out of mum and dad's, according to Paddy!!
